Holiday Hope Campaign

Did you know that there are 11 women and 19 children staying in the Barrie shelter right now?
They are staying here tonight because they are afraid for their safety and the safety of their children. Just imagine for a moment that a mother has arrived in the middle of the night with just the clothes on her and her son’s backs. No time to retrieve any belongings in the quick escape. A pattern of abuse from her partner has been steadily increasing for some time now and it got to a point where it’s safer to leave than to stay. Barrie City Police responds to a noise complaint and quickly determines the risk to the woman and her child. They offer to bring her to the shelter to get help immediately and make invaluable connections to resources which will help her rebuild her and her son’s lives. You may not know this but Barrie City Police respond to an average of 100 domestic violence calls every month. Violence against women is an epidemic in Barrie and around the world. It happens in every income level, age group, culture, geographic area and racial group.

“I support women who have had their spirit crushed; abused by the very people they have loved and trusted to care for them and keep them safe. Many face the difficult journey of single parenthood and an unsure future for themselves and their children. Thanks to the help of our donors, I have seen women rise!” Jean

Please consider continuing to help other women and children by making a donation. Our shelter continues to be over capacity the majority of the time. The initial stay for a woman and child in shelter is 12 weeks, we need to raise $240 to help only one woman and her child stay for one week. Many women and children have to stay longer because of inadequate housing options in the community.

There is still more work to be done and we need your help to support the women and children who are affected by abuse right now. The holidays can be an especially difficult time of year for women and their children. Your donation will add comfort and hope for those who are facing a dark time. Donations like yours make a significant impact on the women and children who stay with us.
Please give generously today and continue to make a difference for more women and children affected by abuse. Your donation will give hope this holiday season.

If you have any questions please contact Kelly Letourneau at 705-792-2188 or kelly@barrieshelter.com. We truly appreciate you for all you have already done to help our women and children. We wish you a wonderful and joyous holiday season and best wishes for the New Year!
