Women's Personal Security

Violence can have impacts on a person’s physical, mental, sexual and reproductive health, which can span generations. Discrimination, harassment, and sexual violence in the workplace can also have profoundly negative effects on all aspects of the victim’s life.

Report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls
The National Inquiry’s Final Report reveals that persistent and deliberate human and Indigenous rights violations and abuses are the root cause behind Canada’s staggering rates of violence against Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA people. The two volume report calls for transformative legal and social changes to resolve the crisis that has devastated Indigenous communities across the country.
National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation Reports
The National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR) was created to preserve the memory of Canada’s Residential School system and legacy. Not just for a few years, but forever. Officially opening in the summer of 2015, the NCTR will be the permanent home for all statements, documents, and other materials gathered by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC).
Canadian Femicide Observatory for Justice and Accountability
The overarching goal of the Canadian Femicide Observatory for Justice and Accountability is to establish a visible and national focus on social and state responses to femicide in Canada. In doing so, part of our activities is to also understand variations in the occurrence of femicide across the country. We know that the rates and characteristics of femicide in general and across its various subtypes are not the same in all provinces and territories. SMWDB
SMWDB partners with organizations in our community to address high priority workforce development issues at the local level. On any specific partnership project or event, it may act as lead partner, co-lead partner or be involved in a steering or advisory committee role. SMWDB can also provide information and support to proposals for new initiatives and programs where a need has been identified.
XcelerateHer
XcelerateHER empowers women entrepreneurs with support and resources to help them start, grow or scale their business and overcome barriers and challenges they face in today’s economy. A coalition of leading women entrepreneurs and community partners launched XcelerateHer to unite women entrepreneurs and connect them to the support and resources available in the central Ontario entrepreneurial ecosystem.

In the final report and recommendations of the “Gender Wage Gap Strategy Steering Committee” one of the recommendations is “share the care” to aim to support all types of families in balancing care giving and work. Working families need family-work policies and programs that reflect the current realities of child and elder care in Ontario.

This process builds an evidence-based foundation for a strategic framework, which can highlight emerging trends in our local labour market and propose actions that will address these concerns.
Business Professional Women of Barrie
Business Professional Women of Barrie are looking specifically at the living realities of women in Barrie right now, having women in change-making positions is key. Research shows that financial performance and corporate governance (accountability, fairness, transparency, assurance, leadership, etc.) are improved when women are on boards and in leadership positions. We know there are real barriers to women’s involvement and participation in leadership positions but I want work to eliminate those barriers and empower women to be change makers.
