Walk a Mile in Her Shoes

What is Walk a Mile in Her Shoes?

“You can’t really understand another person’s experience until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes.”

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes is a community march where the community leads the way on the road to end domestic violence by walking one mile in red high-heeled shoes. The Walk gives participants the opportunity to get their communities talking about a difficult subject while increasing awareness of the problem, offering opportunities for healing, and demonstrating their willingness to walk with women and children as allies, advocates and survivors.

The ‘Walk a Mile in Her Shoes’ event in Barrie will benefit local women and children affected by intimate partner violence and supported by the Women & Children’s Shelter of Barrie. Each year the fundraising goal is $70,000 and we are hopeful that being back in Downtown Barrie’s Heritage Park, we will reach our goal. The Women & Children’s Shelter of Barrie relies heavily on community support and donations to be able to provide programs and services in Simcoe County.
